Systems of Linear Equations

 Solving systems of Equations

In this unit we look at solving a system of equations.  That essentially means we're finding values for the variables in two equations that satisfy both equation or make them both true when substituted in.  Firstly we will look at solving systems graphically.  The short version of this is just graphing two lines and finding the point where they intersect.

Lets look at the possibilities for what kind of answers we could get.

Solving Systems Graphically

Solving by Substitution

We don't have to use graphs to solve systems.  Lets take a look at two methods for solving systems by just using the equations.  The first method is called the substitution method.

The last method is the elimination method.

The last thing we need to look at is what the math is telling us when we get strange answers.
