Factors and Products

Lets start off with a review of Polynomials and operations with Polynomials.

And we'll review operations of polynomials.  The video below does division with a binomial which we don't get into yet so stop after the multiplication, it's the most important piece for what we're getting into in this unit.

Ok now lets look at the real topic of this unit, Factoring.  Factoring is like un-multiplying, lets see what we mean first with numbers.

Lets look at factoring polynomials now.  The first video is an overview of the different types of factoring.  There are few rules but many different polynomials that we can apply them to.

Lets look at these types of factoring a little more in depth.

Common Factors

Factoring by Grouping - This video goes over grouping 4 term polynomials as well as how to use grouping of a three term polynomial.

Factoring trinomials where a = 1.  This method works if the coefficient on the x squared term is = 1.  If we have a coefficient other than 1 on the x squared term we will need another method.

Factoring trinomials where a =\= 1.  These trinomials have a coefficient on the x squared term.  For these, we can't just use our product sum method.  We need a different way of factoring.

2 videos on a method called Decomposition

Shortcut method for trinomials that would need Decomposition

Now lets finally look at Binomials.  In this course we will only look at binomials that fit the pattern of the "difference of squares"
